PQ’s history goes far back to the time when Native Americans inhabited the area. Because of remains found of prehistoric cultures, PQ history can be dated back 7,000 years. Established and settled by the Spanish in 1823, Rancho Penasquitos is a well-known and active community in San Diego County. PQ also offers convenient access to the Route 56 and I-15.
Rancho Penasquitos residents look forward to numerous yearly events that are held in the community, including the Fiesta de los Penasquitos, a street festival in May that celebrates Mexican culture, featuring dance, music and entertainment opportunities. Residents also look forward to the 4th of July fireworks show, as well as Christmas Card Lane, a decorating celebration that occurs in the month of December in which residents decorate their properties with Christmas and holiday trimmings and lights.
Mt. Carmel and Westview High Schools are the two main high schools of the area, operated by the Poway Unified School District. Both high schools offer superb educations to resident students and have proven their success in national ranking system and test scores time and time again.
